Multiplayer mode has never really been part of the “Deus Ex” series of games, and most of its fans are okay with that. Considering how “Call of Duty” online sessions often degenerate into rage-filled mayhem involving foul-mouthed adolescents, it’s understandable that not everyone would find the feature appealing. However, for those who are interested in multiplayer, it seems that “Deus Ex: Mankind Divided” will have something of the sort to offer.
The mode in question is called Breach and it involves going into a virtual world where players will need to hack nodes and return to the spawn point as fast as possible. This was the explanation by Gamespot’s Rob Crossley who seems visibly excited by the new feature.
Although it does not resemble the kind of player versus player multiplayer mode that fans of “COD” or “Battlefield” games have come to love, it does offer a sense of social competitiveness among players of “Deus Ex” who tend to be more even tempered. Players will basically be presented with ever-escalating challenges and they will earn high scores as a result. Other players can then try to beat those high scores by trying to beat the mode faster, with more points, though never both.
The matter of making a choice of which to prioritize seems to be what Crossley found the most exciting since it still brings the nature of decision-making from the main game. The biggest difference with Breach is that the time limit ramps up the pressure to choose. The tension factor therefore becomes one of the main selling points.
Engadget likens the mode to an arcade-style game where players try to outdo each other in terms of high scores. The better the players perform in the mode, the more weapons, experience, and credits they will get, which will help them achieve even more as they try to reach the top of the scoreboard.
